The Chamber Music Society of Little Rock continues today in the spirit of its founders. In 1953 a group of friends began meeting in one another’s homes to enrich the cultural life of Little Rock with a new form of classical music. Since then their concerts have moved to the John Brown Student Union Building on the campus of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, then to its present home, the Parish Hall of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church. Every season the Society brings four performers or groups of musicians to town. Chosen with a concern for balance, each season typically includes both soloists and ensembles. Over the years these have included young groups on the rise, as well as established players.
